Task 1: Write a short email to inform management of a problem

  • About 150 words 
  • Peer assessed with clearly defined rubric by the instructors
  • Give constructive feedback to at least 5 pieces of peer work 








Each task is worth 15%. We will automatically drop the lowest score amongst the three tasks. So the total for all three tasks is 30%.

Task 2: Write to inform and make recommendations for a problem

  • About 300 words 
  • Peer assessed with clearly defined rubric by the instructors

Task 3: Write an executive summary

  • About 650 words 
  • Peer assessed with clearly defined rubric by the instructors

Final Exam

Assignment submission policy

  • Participation activities such as vocabulary practice, reviews after video-lectures, and grammar practice can be completed any time before the final exam deadline. There is no limitation on the number of attempts for participation activities, however, only the last attempt will be graded. 
  • You will have one attempt to complete each of the quizzes, peer assessment tasks and the final exam. Submissions after the deadline identified in the table above will not count towards your final score. Please also note that we do not accept late submission under any circumstances.

Certificate of Completion

  • To qualify for an e-Certificate of Completion, you must get a pass of 60% in the overall weighting. edX will issue the certificate under the name of HKUSTx for free. The certificates will not include a final grade.
