About This Course

This course is designed to impart key information on safe sleep practices for infants. It debunks common myths associated with sleep practices for babies and talks about key practices such as co-sleeping. It also outlines practices aimed at increasing compliance to safe sleep guidelines by caregivers.

By the end of this training, you will be able to:

- Understand the proper guidelines for safe sleep

- Outline best practices to improve compliance of parents and caregivers to safe sleep guidelines

- State how to reduce perceived barriers to safe sleep

- Identify safe sleep environments and potential hazards

Requirements

There are no prerequisites for this course. No prior training, knowledge or experience is required to take this course.

This course is brought to you by the Maternal Child Health Training Program at the Michael and Susan Dell Center for Healthy Living through a collaboration with the University of Texas Health Science Center School of Public Health (UTHealth) and Grand Valley State University School of Social Work.

MCH Training Program

The purpose of the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Training Program is to strengthen the capacity of the rural public health work force to meet the diverse needs of MCH populations via accessible and customized public health education and training. The program is designed to enhance the core public health practice with an explicit focus on an MCH-specific professional identity.

Liza is currently a graduate student obtaining her Master’s Degree in Social Work at Grand Valley State University.
