About This Course

There are several behaviors that affect the health of the baby during a pregnancy. Some behaviors are healthy while others are harmful. In this module, we will discuss the behaviors that harm the baby and negatively affect the pregnancy, including smoking, alcohol consumption, and use of drugs and medicines.

After taking this course, you will be able to:

- List behaviors during pregnancy that cause birth defects

- Describe the effects of harmful behaviors on pregnancy

- Identify methods to prevent unhealthy behaviors in pregnant women

- Describe how community health workers can alter behaviors that cause birth defects
