This program has been developed by the Canada Vigilance Program and UBC Continuing Professional Development to help BC Pharmacy Professionals develop an awareness and understanding of the importance of Adverse Reaction monitoring and reporting in the provision of safe and effective drug therapy.

The program has been accredited for 0.75 CEUs

Thanh Vu, BSc (Pharm), PharmD

Coordinator, Canada Vigilance regional Office-BCClinical Associate Professor — Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of British Columbia

Thanh Vu works with Health Canada as the Coordinator of the Canada Vigilance Regional Office in British Columbia. She is responsible for providing front-line regional coordination pertaining to Health Canada’s national adverse reaction reporting program, and promotes the voluntary adverse reaction reporting program by developing and sustaining external partnerships and collaborating on projects and activities. Her collaborations with UBC Continuing Pharmacy Professional Development and the BC Patient Safety and Learning System aim to address some of the barriers to reporting by increasing awareness about adverse reactions and leveraging existing patient safety reporting mechanisms to support adverse reaction reporting in British Columbia. In addition to her administrative role, Thanh also participates in teaching activities at UBC and UNBC. Thanh earned her undergraduate and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of British Columbia. She is a Clinical Associate Professor with the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Glenda MacDonald, BSP, ACPR, PharmD, RPh

Lecturer and Director — Division of Continuing Pharmacy Professional Development (CPPD), Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of British Columbia

Dr. Glenda MacDonald is the Director of Continuing Pharmacy Professional Development and Lecturer in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. During her 35 years as a pharmacist clinician and educator, Glenda has fulfilled leadership roles in the development and establishment of a number of innovative programs. She was the Director of Canada’s first Doctor of Pharmacy Program here at UBC, and remains committed to ensuring that pharmacists gain the knowledge and skills required for our rapidly changing profession. Glenda completed her undergraduate pharmacy degree at the University of Saskatchewan, her Residency at Foothills Hospital in Calgary, and her Doctor of Pharmacy at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston.

Sheryl Peterson, BSc (Agr), BSc (Pharm), RPh

Lecturer and Associate Director — Division of Continuing Pharmacy Professional Development (CPPD), Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of British Columbia
Sheryl is the Associate Director of Continuing Pharmacy Professional Development (CPPD) and is a lecturer in Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of British Columbia. She holds a BSc (Pharm), Diploma in Asthma Care and a Train the Trainer Certificate in the “Practical Administration of Injections for BC Pharmacists”. She has practiced in diverse roles within the Pharmacy profession including community pharmacy, regulatory oversight and pharmacy education. She has 15 years of experience developing, delivering, accrediting and evaluating pharmacy education programs in a variety of learning formats. She has served on numerous pharmacy and interdisciplinary committees and has been a presenter at regional, national and international conferences.
