2026Q2: Special Lecture Intro to video creation


About This Course

This is a project-based blended learning course where students study online materials and attend lectures in the classroom to learn about the process of video-making. Some of the topics that are covered in this course are: educational technology (“EdTech”), educational videos, video pre-production, production, post-production and video delivery. Students will create two videos in this course. As a final project, students will work in groups to apply what they have learned in this class to create an educational video of 3-5 min in length. This course is taught in English. The group of students that prepares the best video will receive a certificate. 

Requirements

This is an undergraduate course taught in English requiring high conversational ability and group work skills.

Prof. Jeffrey S Cross

Professor Cross is affiliated with the Tokyo  School of Environment and Society Dept. of Transdiscipilinary Science and Engineering GEDES and Energy Science and Informatics graduate majors. He founded and manages the Science Tokyo online content research and development section located within the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning that creates MOOCs on edX and campus-wide online courses. This is the eighth time that he has taught this course. He looks forward to teaching with students about video-making and seeing their group videos at the end of the course.

Lecturer Hiroki Ohsawa

Guest lectures on video pre-production, production, and video editing will be taught by Kinjo Gakuin University Lecturer Hiroki Ohsawa, an award-winning film writer-director, director of photography and video editor. Hiroki holds a Master's in film making from the New York Film Academy and has years of film industry experience in Tokyo and Los Angeles. Hiroki and Prof. Cross have been collaborating on education projects for more than five years.   see for more info

Can I enroll in this class?

Please enroll via the portal and attend the first class, which will be taught on June 12th (Thurs.) in periods 3 and 4 from 10:45 in Q2 in the West 9 bldg classroom.

Is there a final exam?

No, there is no final exam since students prepare a video final project in groups.
