About this course

Experience shows that planning citizen participation contributes to reduce and hold back social conflicts, minimizing risks and multiplying opportunities. Along this course, we share examples and lessons learned about how, when and where the different tools of citizen participation should be used, offering a practical roadmap to optimize the design and execution of initiatives and operations. The course is composed and organized in 6 modules:

  • 5 levels of Citizen Participation
  • Information
  • Dialogue
  • Public Consultations
  • Collaboration
  • Partnerships
  • Each module has different resources (examples, videos with real cases of successes and failures, complementary resources and evaluation activities) that will help you understand the added value of level planning to use them in initiatives and operations.

    Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify the added value of planning and implementing actions related to stakeholders’ inclusion in initiatives, projects, operations and policies.
  • Recognize what each level consists of and when each of them should be used.
  • Identify mechanisms or strategies to execute each level.
  • Contrast the appropriate with inappropriate use of each level.
