HOW TO PARTICIPATE
Living Writers Online returns in Fall 2018 with Jennifer Brice and Colgate colleagues exploring the work of 9 exciting writers of fiction and nonfiction. Your level of participation in this self-paced literary learning experience is up to you. Read just one book, or all 9. Take part in one discussion, in all of the activities — or anywhere in between.
This fall's line-up features memoirs by three Colgate alumni: Mel Watkins ’62, Bill Barich ’65, and Mary Anna King ’04. The memoir Just Kids is legendary "punk poet laureate" Patti Smith's first book of prose and a winner of the National Book Award. We've also got short stories by Viet Thanh Nguyen, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for The Sympathizer, and by Carmen Maria Machado and Nana Adjei-Brenyah. If novels are more to your taste, we think you’ll love Claire of the Sea Light by Edwidge Danticat, winner of the American Book Award, and The Happiest People in the World by Brock Clarke.

Living Writers is free and open to everyone. Check back here in July 1st for a full calendar of events and instructions on how to participate at whatever level works for you. The whole course goes live on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

Jennifer Brice
Jennifer Brice is an associate professor of English at Colgate University. Her teaching specialties include creative writing, travel writing, literary journalism, and writing about science and the environment. She is the author of The Last Settlers, a work of documentary journalism, and Unlearning to Fly, a memoir-in-essays.
